How to Leverage the Mentoring Relationship

Have at least one interview or exploratory conversation to make sure there is "workable chemistry" between you and the individual.

Prepare for meetings with your mentor/mentee.

If you are being mentored, be sure to take initiative, plan questions and be willing to look at your own behavior.

A Mentor is:

Someone you can respect.

A person with whom you can discuss issues confidentially.

A patient person who has time to work with you on a development plan.

Someone who will support your needs, and at the same time, they will encourage you to face challenges, conquer difficulties, and motivate you to reach your goal.

Someone who knows how to communicate effectively with you, pays attention, and has influence skills.
